Vacation
Employees assigned to a 12-month schedule (defined as July 1st to June 30th employment cycle) are provided additional vacation days as an opportunity for time off during the course of employment. The rate of accrual is based upon hire date and eligible position. Further information about vacation time can be found in the District’s Employee Handbook by clicking here.
State and Local Leave
Upon hire, all employees are provided up to 5 state and 5 local leave days, prorated based on start date. Local leave (aka local sick leave) can be used for an employee or immediate family member’s illness, family emergency, death in the immediate family, and active military leave. State Personal Leave may be used in the same manner as local sick leave (non-discretionary leave), or may be used at the employees' discretion with advanced, approved scheduling (discretionary leave). Additional information about State, Local and other leaves can be found in the District’s Employee Handbook by clicking here.
All District employees employed on a regular basis for at least four and one-half months are members of the Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS). Members contribute 8.0% of eligible compensation to the pension system and .65% to the TRS-Care fund (retiree health insurance).

The District and district employees do not contribute to the Social Security program. Therefore, years of Birdville ISD service and earnings will not be included on your Social Security statement. However, employees are required to contribute 1.45% of eligible compensation to Medicare.
Group health insurance is available to all employees working at least 10 hours per week. Those who are regularly scheduled for 20 hours or more per week are eligible for the district's contribution. Employees working at least 10 hours per week, but less than 20, are eligible to elect medical coverage but are not eligible for the district's contribution and therefore, pay the full premium. Medical coverage is provided through TRS-ActiveCare, the statewide public school employee health insurance program. The district’s contribution to employee insurance premiums is determined annually by the board of trustees and is currently $260. Remaining premiums are paid by the employee through payroll deduction.
Dental and vision coverage is also provided at the employees' option and cost.
The District provides a Telehealth benefit at no cost to eligible employees. The purpose of the program is to assure that employees and their families receive convenient medical attention for common issues such as a cold, rash, allergies, etc.

Eligible employees may choose to direct payroll contributions on a pre-tax basis to an HSA or FSA, and DCA, therefore saving taxes on eligible health and dependent care related expenses. Please note, a household may not be enrolled in both an FSA and HSA during the same plan year.
The District offers a variety of additional voluntary benefits to eligible employees, designed to provide employees with flexibility and stability through their benefit package. These benefits are at the employee’s cost and include:
